A week.....

I can't believe its only a week till my 19th birthday . Just. A. Week. And I am sooooo not prepared to turn 19!!!!! I mean seriously , didn't I just turn 18? Huh?

Okay, so I am not really panicking like the above example.  But, I guess the thing that's worrying me is that 19 is just a step from the big Two-oh and that's kinda scary when you think about it. Isn't it? But, at the same time it also very exciting. :]       Another thing about turning 19 I have no heroine for the year. Yeah each year since I was 16  I have had  a heroine of the same age to look up to and feel a kind of kinship with..

This years being 18  and all it was Rapunzel.

17 was Nancy Drew.

16 Lizel von Trapp

And now I am stuck!!!! I have no book/ movie  girl character who is 19!!!!!

Anyhooo, this week I will spend pondering this past year which has been huge  and being thankful for it all the good and the bad because  in every situation I learn something and I grow. In mind, body  and spirit . And each day I know I am treading my very own path God has made for me  and becoming the woman he want sme to be.

Marilyn Monroe: and beauty.

“All little girls should be told they are pretty, even if they aren't.”
-Marilyn Monroe.

Marilyn Monroe, she was one woman who did many things, some good some bad  but more importantly  to me ,she  has left us a ton of amazing quotes as women in the 21st century.

The above quote is one of the most beautiful and powerful I have ever heard.  And if you think about the time period she lived in the  beginning of pressure for women to look , dress act and physically be a certain way its  even more awesome.

The thing about this quote that is most important is it is true.  Every girl no matter her age should  be told they are pretty.   I mean seriously  even if you are the only person in that girls life to tell her she is pretty you will have made her feel she is pretty inside and in a time of trouble and self doubt or such like  maybe she will look back remember what you said and hold her chin up and carry on being her beautiful self. I don't know exactly how your saying that could help her but you never know. I certainly know that when some one  tells me "you look pretty" " You have beautiful manners"  etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.  I feel beautiful. I feel confidante in being me , with all my flaws all, the little things I worry  about . "The Pressure to be Perfect " (as I call it and have heard it called)  drops away, all the pressure to look, talk, and behave a certain way goes . And I feel truly beautiful. And heck, maybe tomorrow I'll wake up with dark circles under my eyes from a sleepless night and maybe I'll just wear track pants out with ugg boots and (heaven forbid!) no make-up!!!!.

And no, I will  not look like the goddess the media says I should, I won't look like a model or celebrity I might look a bit well, ordinary but I know as long as I follow my heart and the moral guidelines I have, I AM beautiful

When we embrace ourselves , everything , our fears, flaws as well as all our  goodness, talents  . Everything. We are all beautiful.

And maybe all the kind of pressure the media gives everyone is one of the reasons Marilyn had such a tragic ending to her young life.

Ta Ta Darlings, and remember YOU are beautiful!

I didn't want to leave....

This! This is what I didn't want to leave this morning. :[ Yes  that right my lovely, delicious, toasty warm bed.  Its one of the most beautiful places in the world I  believe. You dream in it (literally and figuratively) ,read in it, lounge in it, sleep in it, chat to  sisters in their beds from the comfort of your own, and pray.

Not my bed. But, I can dream right?!

I love my bed and I hate leaving it on a cold , frosty morning. :[  At least I'll see it tonight!!!

The Men I love Part one : Orry Main

Like most girls have I imagine, I too have a list of guys real or imaginary  that I am shall we say "in love" with . I like them for various reasons character traits, circumstances I can relate too etc.  We'll begin with:

 Orry Main.
Isn't he handsome?!!?!?!?!?
Orry is from the books and TV series "North and South."  He is the son of a wealthy plantation owner in  South Carolina. He goes to  West Point. During the journey, he meets and falls in love with beautiful New Orleans French-Creole Madeline Fabray.  At the Academy he becomes great friends with George Hazard.  While at the Academy the meet Bent and evil ,twisted man  who instantly hates Orry and  constantly harasses him and punishes him for no reason.  Orry keeps writing letters to Madeline even though she haws not responded. After being gone 2 years Orry returns home on leave.  While home Orry learns that Madeline is to marry Justin  La Motte, who is known to be a cruel man .  After Madeline's wedding Orry and she discover her father hid Orry's letters to her so that she would marry a powerful and wealthy man.     She and he are both devastated  and  now that she  is married they can't even be  a couple or anything like that!!!  Orry returns to the Academy and Madeline begins her life as Mrs. Justin La Motte.

I'm not going to say anything more about the story as it'll spoil it for those who might watch or read  it. :D ( the TV series is better. Just saying)
Orry's character is amazing! He's a real gentlemen,  a hero, and he is just awesome!!! Plus he and Madeline are just so great together.  There is some adult content in it so I would definitely only watch it if you have parental permission, are a very mature person, or over the age of 14 or there abouts.

Now some pictures of the dear guy shall we?!!! ( or should we say couple as Madeline is in all of them but one? )

Aren't they sweet?!?!?!?

That dress is to die for!!!!!

Secrets, secrets, where would the world be without them?

Basically he is awesome, his story is awesome and I am in love with it all and him!!!!!  And I never tire of it! I love his determination and the strength with which he overcomes things. And well, EVERYTHING!!!!!! Do you have a character or story you never tire of?

On a "must read" classic.

There are many classic books people tell you are "amazing!" "incredible" and "a must read."
One I had never read was a book that kept on popping up here and there with people saying how good it was. "Anna Karenina."
Eventually I decided to read it. Surely it couldn't be that bad?
I am not even halfway finished  and yet  I am already bored, horrified  and  upset over  the main character's transformation and idiotic choices.
Frankly, I cannot see how a book with so much immorality in it can be held up  so much by scores of people as a "fabulous  , must read".   Its kinda sad really.
Image on a book cover I found on-line.

I had to see how it ends so read up on it on Wikipedia and am happy now I know how it ends. It doesn't end happily. But, now I know how it'll end so I'm content in that knowledge.
But, I am still horrified with Anna and her behaviour and what she does.    I shall link to the Wikipedia article on her and the book  here as it is rather long and has mature content in it. Anna is an interesting character  but I do not like her very much at all.
I prefer the secondary main female character  Kitty. Her story is most interesting and her character delightful.
Frankly, I think Leo Tolstoy 's book is more admired for his writing style and the amazing  quotes then the story itself.

I shall be finishing the book ,even though I know how it ends. As much as I dislike Anna herself it is a rather interesting story. And I imagine many would call it tragic. I do enjoy reading it but Anna gets to a stage where she gives me a headache and we need time apart.     A new movie starring  Keira Knightly in the role  is coming out this year and frankly I am excited about that as I really feel Kiera could play the role very well. In the meantime I shall be finishing the book and then watching one of the old films of it.  Watch out for a post on my finishing the book perhaps my view will have changed. And movie reviews of it.

Have you ever read Anna Karenina? Or any books by Leo Tolstoy?  Have you ever read a book people said was awesome only to read it and think it wasn't?

More fun!!!

Okay so  I found this on Miriam's blog: Thoughts of a Shieldmaiden. (Who is an amazing writer/blogger by the way. ) And it looked fun so I stole it!!!! :D

1) What is the flight velocity of an unladen sparrow? Its lifes greatest mystery. For centuries wise men and women have sat staring at sparrows pondering this all to important question.
2) What’s a book you’ve been dying to read but have never found the time to pick up? One?! Just one?? Oh my gosh this is hard!!! I have a stack beside my bed and you want me to choose one???!?!?!?!?!!!!!!  Um...........  I have it!!!!!! The Emporer of Ni Hon Ja by john Flanagan!!!!  That would be topity tops I beleive. :)
3) Favorite TV show past or present? Gossip Girl !!!!!!  I know my goodness my secret is out.  I like Gossip Girl. Although my family does not share this love of mine we do bond over Fawlty Towers. :D
4) Least favorite TV show past or present?  I Dream of Jeanie!!!! Hate it!!!!!!!  Boring and sooooo preduictable.
5) If aliens abducted us all and Twilight was the last book written in a human language, would you preserve it for future generations? Hmmmmm, probably. I'm a sucker for memories and last time doing  things. :)
6) Narnia or LOTR (books, not movies)?  For Narnia and for Aslan!!!!!!!! Do not tell me LOTR's is better it just isn't. Plus it doesn't have fauns or Lions that talk. :)
7) Favorite Pixar film?  Toy Story 3. :)   I love all the Toy story movies. But this one is just full of sweetness.  And Ken and Barbie. :D
8) Do you have a particular proclivity for pyrotechnics?  No, not really though I must admit they do look quiet spectacular at night.
9) Should she marry Kokoum?  No! No!No! No! And again No!!!! Kokoum is as Annie Oakley would say "a swollen headed stiff." I dislike Kokoum very much.
10) Boba Fett or Jango Fett?  Jango Fett. His fighting skills are way cooler . And he has so much more cool gadgets. And his suit is much shinier and cooler.
11) If two witches are watching two watches, which witch would watch which watch? Well, the first witch would watch the watch to the right which is purple. Because she likes purple. And the second witch would watch the second watch because the other witch is her older sister .And she said if she didn't watch the non purple one she'd burn her broom! And the second witch doesn't really do violence so all is saticfactory with the watch watching witches. :D

I like answering random fun question. Just in case you where wondering. :)

Stop this Monster!

Warning :   Adult please preview for your child as things found below could be quite frightening and/or sad for children.

Jessica over at "Diary of a Beautiful Soul "  Posted this incredibly moving post . A veiw hours ago I had no idea who Kony was. Now I do and I want him stopped.                 I urge you to read the following which is a copy of Jessica's post titled :
" because we won't stop until you are brought down"    I urge you to share this and spread awareness of this monster. I urge you to pray that he is stopped. I urge you to help bring him down.

"Today I am not going to be doing any memes, or funny, lighthearted blog posts. Today I will be telling you all about something that was only brought to my attention a couple of hours ago, but needs to be spread as fast as possible.

First, please watch this video. It is a half hour long, but I urge you to please -- say 'no' to ignorance, and find out what is going on.

Should you have chosen not to watch the video, I will sum this issue up for you, only because I believe it is so extremely important that as many people as possible know what this is about. (But please reconsider hitting the play button!)

Joseph Kony is a monster. He is the leader of an organization called "LRA," a rebellion in Uganda (Africa.) For the past nearly 30 years, he has been kidnapping children, ages five and under, from their homes, sometimes from their beds in the night, and destroying their lives.

To the boys, he gives a gun, and forces them to shoot their own parents. He makes them into soldiers and forces them to mutilate peoples' faces.

As for the girls, they become sex slaves.

For the past twenty-six years, he has been building his army this way -- with innocent children who are forced to slaughter other innocent children, and spread violence and terror throughout Uganda. He only does this for power -- not to forward any political views or anything. As he gathers more soldiers, and grows more powerful, we could seriously be looking at another Hitler. And one look at history will tell us how that ends.

The man who made that video ^ is the head of a campaign called KONY 2012. They have been working for awhile now to stop Kony and the LRA, but only recently has word really begun to get out.
We have one year -- the rest of this year, in fact -- to catch him To arrest this potential-Hitler. Because after this year, peoples' interest will begin to wain, and then the few people who are truly dedicated will be standing against him alone.

Here is all I am asking of you, even if you didn't watch that video, or read any of the above. Please do at least one of the following:

PIN that ^ poster.
SHARE the video link.
EMAIL all your contacts with this important message. Heck, just
COPY AND PASTE this blog post and send it out.
TEXT everyone you know.
IM your friends and say "Hey, check this out."
POST the video on your blogs or Facebook walls.
FORWARD other peoples' messages.
TWEET "STOP KONY, 2012!".
CREATE a "KONY2012" pinboard and
REPIN as many graphics/videos as you can.
PUT UP a button on your blog's sidebar.
PRAY for this man to be brought down, and for the children he has terrorized.
MAKE the banner your profile pic on Twitter, Facebook, Blogger, etc.
Do whatever you can, all for one purpose...
TO MAKE JOSEPH KONY FAMOUS...
and make his name a household name.
Not to promote his ideas and principles and violence, but to promote awareness.
And show that you are not going to stop until this war is over.

In order for any action to take place, awareness must first be achieved. Please, for the sake of what is right, for the good of the millions of five-year-olds and babies who will fall asleep tonight afraid that in the morning, they may be taken from everything they know and love, and forced to become monsters...
spread this man's face before he makes a name for himself through destruction.

No one had the power to take action like this in the 30s, and look at the world-wide destruction and terror that took place. DO NOT let history repeat itself. YOU have the power, right now, to make a difference in catching this man. To shape history. YOU can make sure that people find out what is going on, before it's too late.

And, no, I do not work for the Invisible Children or KONY2012 organizations, (both of which are non-profit,) but if you would like to support them, or buy a KONY2012 bracelet and sign the pledge, here is their website and store.

Thank you if you took the time to listen to this and did something to help =)
Jess     "

I will be trying my best to raise awareness  for this modern day Hitler.    I'll be trying to help, Hey I'll probably post about him again, and what I've heard  that people  have been  doing etc.  And anything I may have done no matter how small it is.   My heart hurts to hear about this, and yet I want to use that to help make a difference.  What about you???

The Unsinkable!

If you're like me you love a good story, I mean who honestly doesn't?!   The thrill of excitement as you get to a crucial bit in said story, the moment of sadness when a character is  dead or dying.   But , again  if you are like me  you love reading stories about real events. Biography's , novels , they are amazing!!!!    My absolute favourite real life incident to have stories based off is "The Titanic."
Those stories are always amazing, they can be about people from any background but they always end in the climax of : the sinking on   April 15th 1912 "The Unsinkable Titanic" did what many people boasted she wouldn't: She sunk.    My favourite book about the Titanic is  "Voyage on the Great Titanic: The Diary of Margaret Ann Brady, RMS Titanic, 1912 by Ellen Emerson White"
Its awesome a young girl from London England sails as the companion of a rich lady , she is an orphan and is going to America to join her brother there. And this book has everything!    Desperation, distinction between classes and what that entails, friends  who will never see each other again and the sweetest most beautiful sad and gorgeous ending ever!!!! Which I'm not going to tell you as I command you to go and buy/beg/borrow or steal a copy.   Okay I'm not all that heartless here is  Wikipedia's review on it SPOILERS ALERT!

"The story begins in London, England, where a thirteen year old girl, Margaret Ann Brady, is keeping a diary. She explains that her parents died and her brother emigrated to America leaving her in the care of an orphanage. The orphanage receives a request for a travelling companion to accompany Mrs. Carstairs on the RMS Titanic.
The beginning of the trip goes more than smoothly. Margaret meets a handsome young steward, Robert, and befriends him. She thoroughly enjoys the trip, describing how big the Titanic is, and the luxuries of living on it. She has grand meals, and even shares one with some of the most important crew of the Titanic. But the ship crashes into an iceberg and starts to sink slowly. Mrs. Carstairs escapes to safety on a lifeboat, and tells Margaret that they will meet up again soon.
Margaret rushes down the ship and looks for Robert. More and more lifeboats are leaving, but she figures there will be more. Finally, she finds Robert. They chat and share a tender moment. Then they kiss. Margaret pleads for Robert to come with her to safety, but Robert declines stating he cannot leave his fellow stewards.
Once back on top deck, Margaret leaves on the last lifeboat and is the last to board. She and her fellow passengers watch in horror as the grand ship sinks. They hear the cries of the dead as they move on, rescuing a few people from the cold waters. She says that she could not forget the screams of the dead going down with the ship. She also states that she will not forgive herself for letting Robert go, nor for surviving the Titanic.
In New York, Margaret says farewell to Mrs. Carstairs and finds William. They travel to his home in Boston and the story ends. "
And once again if you are like me you are extremely excited that next month is a hundred years since the sinking of "The Unsinkable Titanic"   Do you have a favourite event in history that you enjoy reading about?
Toodles!
